Missed a workout? How to think about your next session
A practical way to review your training calendar after a missed session without guessing at extra workouts.
Check the programme first
Look for instructions about missed sessions. Some plans use a repeating sequence, while others depend on particular training days. Those approaches are not interchangeable.
Avoid making up extra work automatically
Do not assume you should double your next session or squeeze several sessions together. Review the programme’s recovery guidance and ask its coach when the instructions are unclear.
Find the real scheduling problem
Was the missed session caused by travel, work or an unrealistic session length? A useful adjustment may be a different time slot or a programme designed around fewer available days.
Make the next step visible
Record the session you last completed, the one that comes next under your programme and the next realistic time you can attend. Keeping those three details together reduces the amount of planning needed before your next visit.
Know when a calendar change is not enough
If illness, injury or pain caused the interruption, a schedule tool cannot decide when it is appropriate to restart. Seek guidance suited to the situation.
